KYOTO

Hi there! I’m Sui, a Tokyoite excited to share insights for your upcoming journey to Japan. In this post, I’ll be your virtual guide, unveiling the allure of Japan’s diverse cities and providing tips for seamless inter-city travel. Whether you’re captivated by Tokyo’s dynamic energy, Kyoto’s timeless beauty, or Osaka’s vibrant culture, I’ve got you covered. Let’s make your travel plans a breeze!

TOKYO

Asakusa

Let’s start with Tokyo, Japan’s capital city. Tokyo, a vibrant metropolis blending history, technology, and culture, offers unforgettable adventures for every traveler. Don’t miss the bustling streets of Shibuya, where you can snap a photo at the famous scramble crossing (but please be careful). Just a short walk away is Harajuku, known for its unique fashion and bustling atmosphere along Takeshita Street.
Exploring the traditional side of Japan in Asakusa is a must-do experience. Dressing up in a kimono, taking a rickshaw ride, and fully immersing yourself in the charm of Asakusa is highly recommended. And of course, don’t forget to indulge in world-class sushi at Tsukiji Market!

Airport Access:
  • From Haneda Airport to Tokyo Station:
    Approximately 30 minutes by train.
  • From Narita Airport to Tokyo Station:
Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours by train.
Approximately 1 hour by bus. Be sure to purchase a designated boarding ticket at the ticket counters located within each terminal building beforehand.

KYOTO

Kiyomizu-dera

Next up is Kyoto, a perennial favorite among visitors to Japan. Surprisingly, for much of Japan’s long history, Kyoto served as the nation’s capital. It wasn’t until 1896 that the capital moved to Tokyo, after over 1,100 years of Kyoto’s reign. As you may know, Kyoto is a city steeped in Japan’s rich history and culture. Don’t miss out on capturing Insta-worthy photos at the golden Kinkaku-ji Temple or wandering through the tranquil bamboo groves. And of course, be sure to indulge in some matcha sweets while you’re there!

Access:
  • From Kansai International Airport to Kyoto Station:
Approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by train.
  • From Tokyo Station to Kyoto Station:
Approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes by Shinkansen (bullet train) at around 13,000 yen.

OSAKA

TAKOYAKI

Osaka, the second largest metropolis after Tokyo, boasts historical landmarks like Osaka Castle and Tsutenkaku Tower, vibrant districts such as Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi, and renowned delicacies like takoyaki and okonomiyaki. The cheerful and friendly nature of Osakans adds to its charm. In 2021, the opening of the Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan further heightened its appeal, attracting even more visitors.

Access:
  • From Kansai International Airport to Osaka Station:
Approximately 1 to 1.5 hours by train.
  • From Tokyo Station to Osaka Station:
2.5 hours by Shinkansen (bullet train) at around 14,000 yen.

OKINAWA

You can swim with sea turtles!

Ending with Okinawa. A beloved tropical island destination, not only among Japanese but also internationally. Its hallmark features include azure seas, expansive white sandy beaches, and vibrant coral reefs. With a warm climate year-round, it offers an array of marine sports and activities. From the main island to the surrounding isles, day trips reveal untouched natural beauty and pristine waters. Enriched by Ryukyu culture, visitors can enjoy traditional dances, folk music, and delectable local cuisine. Historical sites like Shurijo Castle and remnants of the Battle of Okinawa add further allure. Compared to Tokyo and Osaka, Okinawa offers a more affordable cost of living, with plenty of budget-friendly dining options.

Access

  • From Tokyo (Haneda Airport) to Okinawa (Naha International Airport)
    Approximately 2.5 hours by plane.
  • From Naha International Airport to the central area of Okinawa City
